ABOUT US

Sherwood Park Minor Football Association was founded in December 1974 by R.C. (Bob) Edwards who served as President until 1976.  The first season of play was 1975 with four Peewee teams playing an eight game scheduled followed by a tournament with St. Albert. Registration consisted of eighty players with a maximum age and weight of 13 years and 120 lbs.  The Atom division was added in 1977. 
In 1997 the Sherwood Park Minor Football Association wrote a letter requesting to join the Greater Edmonton Football Association. 
In 1998 the Sherwood Park Rams amalgamated with SPMFA. 
At the Annual General Meeting in September 2000 the membership voted to change the name from Sherwood Park Minor Football Association (SPMFA) to Strathcona County Minor Football Association (SCMFA) for the 2001 season.   At this meeting it was also agreed to support the start-up of a third Bantam team (the Wolverines).   The Sherwood Park Rams and the Sherwood Park Northstars donated equipment and SPMFA donated $3000 to the Sherwood Park Wolverines. 
Sometime in the early 2000’s the Bantam football teams left the Sherwood Park Minor Football Association to become separate individual associations.
